Terms commonly used:
-Slash: Male/Male or Female/Female. So, gay action happens. Female/Female is sometimes called FemSlash.
-Yaoi: the term Yaoi is mostly used in Anime or Manga only. Its two (or more) guys in a sexual relationship. Gay porn, basically.
-Yuri: same thing as Yaoi, but with females
-Het: Male/Female. Boring stuff.
-Ship/Shipping: Basically a pairing you want to be together, or are together and you approve.
ex: I ship Harry Styles and Louis Tomlinson
translate: I want Harry Styles and Louis Tomlinson to be in a relationship.
-Canon: official or established relations.
ex. Bella and Edward are canon
-OTP: One True Pairing; basically the pairing that ruins your life, you care about them more than yourself and you feel like their relationship is more important than your own if you had a relationship but you don't because you spend too much time focused on their relationship.
ex. Larry Stylinson is my otp.
AU: Another/Alternative Universe;
ex. One Direction are normal friends that go to college;
-One Shot: one chaptered fic, can have from 100-100,000+ words
-Drabble: like a one shot but shorter
-WIP: work in progress; its not complete, the writer is still working on it
-Fic Rec: A list an author or read has of fanfictions they like.
-Trigger Warning; TW, if the chapter/story contains something that can trig thoughts, panic attack ect,
ex. Self harm, suicide, abuse
-Non-Con: someone get raped
-Dub-con: not raped, but they didn't want it
-OC: Original Character; character made up by the author, doesn't exist in the original world. (OFC is original female char. OMC is original male char.)
ex. Harry/OFC would be Harry in a relationship with a character I created
-POV: point of view; who's point of view the stories in. 3rd, 2nd, 1st, and the person.
ex. Twilight is in Bella POV and in 1st person
-Fluff: cute light hearted romance, no drama, or sadness
-Angst: a depressing feel to the story, someone dies, or someone sad, or depressed
-Songfic: a story based on a song
-smut: porn really. fucking. SEX
-co-write: written with two author
-prompt: a prompt is an idea for a story or one shot. If someone takes prompts, you can give them the idea and they'll write it.
I basically only read slash angst. smut or fluff sometimes. never het.
