Aristotle & Dante... | Book Review

I'll start by saying that I spent the last two years thinking Aristotle & Dante Discover the Secrets of The Universe by Benjamin Alire Saenz was about astronauts.

Because of this, I hesitated on reading it. I'm not into the dystopian trend and had no desire to read something like that.

Then I found out that this books was actually about two Mexican boys in the 80's.

While that seemed more like something I would read than something about astronauts, it still wasn't something I was dying to pick up, despite the amazing reviews it had.

I ended up buying this at a local bookstore because I didn't want to leave empty handed and read it over the last few days.

I completely fell in love with it. It is now one of my all time favorite books.

Ari and Dante are our two main characters. While the two are very different, they become quick friends.

I honestly don't even have the words to describe how beautiful this book is. My copy is covered in post it notes that point out my favorite quotes.

Ari and Dante were two characters that I related to a lot. Like Ari, I don't know how to swim. Like Dante, I am Mexican but not as Mexican as other people? If that makes any sense. I grew up in a neighborhood with mostly Mexican kids, but my friends growing up were almost exclusively white.

I have read lots of books with Mexican characters, but I never related to them. This books isn't about being Mexican. The characters just happen to be Mexican.

There is so many things I loved about this book. I could go on for hours.
